According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as of 2009 the average cost of a semi-private nursing home room in the state of Texas was $144 per day (1). This translates to $4,380 per month and $52,560 per year.

The cost of long term care in the United States increases at a rate of 5% per year. This means that the cost of long term care doubles every 15 years. If you retired in 2009 at age 65 and the cost of a semi-private nursing home room in Texas was $52,560 per year, by the time you were 80 years old the cost of that same nursing home room would be $110,200 per year.
